Jennifer Aniston turned down boyfriend John Mayer's recent marriage proposal, according to reports.
The former Friends actress - who was previously married to actor Brad Pitt - reportedly declined John's offer because she doesn't want to damage their relationship, which they recently rekindled following a split in August.
A source said, "Jennifer said no when John asked her. She told John that everything is so perfect between them right now, they shouldn't ruin the focus of their relationship.
"A wedding would be so stressful and Jennifer just wants to enjoy this phase, falling madly in love and getting a thrill if the other one texts when they are apart.
"John told Jennifer she is the girl for him and he is sure of it. He is willing to do anything she wants as long as they are together. He is like a different guy.
"John was over the moon when Jennifer took him back last month and he never wants them to be apart again. He really wants to settle down with her. He wants children, marriage - the whole thing at some point." |

Exclusive Interview: Rob Pattinson Talks 'Twilight' |

Rob Pattinson, aka Edward Cullen in the 'Twilight' juggernaut, chats about rioting fans, working with Kristen Stewart, Perez Hilton, 'New Moon,' and one girl who was begging for a bite.
I've been hearing about the fans just going crazy at the promo events for Twilight. You're bearing the brunt of it, huh?
It's been fun. It's weird, I get to a city and I always get told there was a riot earlier on. By the time I get there, it's always quieted down a bit. But it is pretty nuts. I thought it might happen in one city, but it's happening everywhere, in every single city we go to, around the world. It's pretty crazy.
What's the weirdest thing that's happened so far?
Well, this was in New York, at the Apple store. This really, really young girl came up on stage, and she asked me to bite her, but like in such a passionate way — it wasn't really fun and games, "Hey, will you bite me, haha, joking!" She'd made up her mind, she got on the stage, and she wanted it. Like a real vampire bite.
So did you bite her?
Yeah, I did!
You did?
No, I didn't, really. Of course not. But it was really funny. It's just so strange how I go to these events and a lot of the people who are there are just completely convinced that I'm Edward. I'm really the character from the book, there is no Robert Pattinson. It's so funny. And they react in that way, not as if I'm just an actor.
Do you get stalked when you're just walking down the street on your own? Do people recognize you?
I don't even know. I mean, I haven't really done anything normal for ages now. God, it's been so long since I've even just walked down the street by myself. Actually, in New York, it didn't really happen. I went off on my own a bit. But it's really strange just being in airports and there are people there waiting for you to get off the plane with their cameras, and you're just exhausted. It's so weird. That's the biggest change I've noticed.
Have you seen the movie yet?
I haven't. I don't really watch my stuff at all, so I don't think I will end up seeing it. Well, maybe I will. I think I'll end up seeing it at the premiere, but I really don't like watching myself on screen.
Did you guys use a lot of CGI in the infamous sparkling Edward scene?
As usual, in Oregon, there were incredibly unpredictable, bizarre weather conditions. There was no sunlight that day, as usual, and of course, we needed this big ray of sunlight, so we used a huge light and I turned around into it. There was no make-up or anything on the day. We had tried to do it with make-up, but it just didn't work so we had to do it with special effects. It was done by George Lucas' company, Industrial Light & Magic, and apparently it looks pretty cool but I haven't seen it yet. But the people at the junket said it looks pretty amazing.
What's going on with New Moon?
I think the script's done already, they just need to greenlight it. But I think it all depends on how well Twilight does, whether it's shot or not.
I read somewhere that Catherine Hardwicke, the director, estimated it needs to earn $150 million.
Oh wow! I don't think it's that much! Is it? We've got our work cut out for us then. But I think there's a lot more CGI needed in the second one, so I think it is a significant amount of money. The second book was my favorite book, so I'm quite looking forward to working on it.
Have you read the whole series now?
I haven't. I've read all of the books except for Breaking Dawn. I didn't want to know how it ended. I wanted to have the uncertainty of not knowing where it's going to go, so I just read the first three. I want to read the last one, but I'm determined to wait.
What was it like working with Kristen Stewart?
She's basically the reason I did the movie. When I read the book, and there are these moony descriptions of Edward as this God-like figure, I thought there was no way I could play him, really. But when I got into the room with Kristen, there was just a certain chemistry. And she's just very smart. She's really the best actress of her generation. I'd seen the run of movies she'd done. She's 18, but it just seemed unnecessary for her to do any of that silly teen movie stuff. Even the movies that are supposed to be aimed at teens, she gets out of it not looking like she's in a teen movie. I thought she'd fight to make Twilight as serious as possible. She's a very cool person to work with.
And you guys tried to elevate the characters to another level, huh?
Yeah, it was really funny, looking back on it. When you just read the book, it's deceptively simple. It's an easy read. But when you try to actually play it, it's a lot more difficult. There's got to be a reason why there are so many fans. There's something else to it that people are really connecting with. So we were trying to find what that something else was.
So you were trying to play Edward as a manic depressive, then?
[Laughs] Initially, yes. Not quite a manic, maybe just a depressive. But Catherine talked us down from that a bit.
How does it feel to be one of Perez Hilton's boys? You're on that list alongside Zac Efron and the Jonas Brothers.
[Laughs] It's good. I didn't really know about that site until my mom sent me an email about it. I can't remember what specifically it was about, but she just forwarded something from him. It's just so strange how it all comes at you, literally overnight, all of this stuff. It's funny.
You've dethroned Zac Efron as the teen heartthrob du jour.
I don't think I quite have yet, though it's funny to see my face on T-shirts. I don't really see it as me. But luckily, I don't have that much to live up to because I'm playing a broody vampire. I don't have to be sweet and clean-cut. But it's cool, I guess. It's complimentary. I am grateful about being part of this huge phenomenon. I mean, there are only so many times something like this is going to happen in your life. And I thought I'd had my run with Harry Potter. It is quite insane.
Yeah, what do you do for a topper after doing Harry Potter and Twilight?
I don't know! What else is there? [Laughs] It's crazy, I've kind of cornered the young adult franchise market. But I'm doing this movie called Parts Per Billion in January, with Dennis Hopper and Rosario Dawson. It's a love story set against the end of the world, but none of the three couples it focuses on know it's the end of the world. It's a very poetic, philosophical script, so I think it should be fun. I'm paired up with Olivia Thirlby. She's cool.
I heard you've thrown your name out for the Jeff Buckley biopic that might happen?
I'd love to do it, but I don't think there's even a script out there yet. I don't look anything like him, so I don't know if I could play him. They'd probably go with James Franco — he looks just like him. But I just love his music. I love the idea of it. I don't know too much about his life, though.
Speaking of biopics, you're playing a young Salvador Dalí in Little Ashes. Are you into art?
It's not that much racier than Twilight, actually, despite the gay love aspect. I shot it before Twilight, and it's about Dalí's relationship with the writer Federico García Lorca, when they were in college together and up till about when Dalí was 26. It's about how their relationship affected their art and also how it formed Dalí into who he was in later life, that caricature. But I myself was never really very good at art. I haven't got a very good sense of perspective, in any element of my life, really. [Laughs] One of my best friends is a very, very good sculptor, and he's always annoyed with me because I don't know enough about art. I'm much more interested in film and music.
And you've got two songs featured in Twilight. So is music next?
I don't know. I used to play open mikes a lot before the stuff got leaked on the Web. But then everyone made such a big deal about it, it was a turn off. It just makes it a very different thing when people know who you are. It's like you go to an open mike, but the vibe has completely changed. It has to be an actual performance, whereas before it was just fun. It's just a lot more pressure, so it's different.
Is the audience completely different too now, when you do those? All teenage girls in Twilight T-shirts?
I haven't done one in a while actually, so I don't know. I used to just turn up at places and just do it, I'd never announce it. But then, I don't know how, word just got out so I stopped for a while. But I'm going back to London in December, so maybe I'll do some then.
Uh oh, I'm sure you've got fans booking flights to England now. Here's the last, infamous question. Team Jacob or Team Edward?
I can't really say I was either team, really. How do you decide? Oh, why not. I guess I'm Team Edward. That's the obvious answer. But I'll be Team Jacob in the third one. |

'Bride Wars' film boasts revamped poster |

After some serious online complaining slamming the original movie poster for the made-in-Boston film "Bride Wars," 20th Century Fox made a few tweaks and unleashed a revamped poster replete with a pair of cake knife-wielding bridezillas out for blood.
The new promo's design and tagline "even best friends can't share the same wedding day" seems to get to ... well ... the point compared to the bland original poster featuring a side-by-side shot of the dueling brides.
The Boston-shot film "Bride Wars" features Anne Hathaway and Kate Hudson as best friends who are pitted against each other when their wedding dates clash. The BFF duo devolve into bridezillas once it’s clear that neither will step aside.
The Fairmont Copley Plaza (locale of the wedding scene), the Public Gardens, South Station and The Estate (bachelorette party scene) as well as South Street in the Leather District served as locations for the made-in-Boston film.
Directed by Gary Winick, "Bride Wars" is slotted for release on Jan. 9, 2009. |

‘Twilight’ star Edi Gathegi Talks Breaking Records, ‘New Moon’ |

It’s always nice when good things happen to good people – so, after spending much of the past year following the cast of “Twilight,” we can’t help but be happy for hard-working Hollywood talents like Catherine Hardwicke, Peter Facinelli and the others who recently enjoyed the greatest success of their careers with the record-setting opening of “Twilight.”
Another such star is 29-year-old Edi Gathegi, a veteran supporting player on TV (“House”) and in movies (“Gone Baby Gone”), who is just now coming into his own as the nomadic “Twilight” vampire Laurent. Naturally, after the box-office results came pouring in, MTV was eager to catch up with the affable actor to get his reaction.
“I feel amazing,” Gathegi gushed. “It’s wonderful to be part of a hugely successful opening.”
As for his whereabouts during the “Twilight” opening weekend, he remembered: “I was in Cambridge, meeting fans all weekend, and trying to not think about how the film was performing, but every few minutes I would get text messages from friends and family telling me how it was doing. The estimates kept going up. It was surreal!”
As Twilighters know, the story of Laurent will continue in the next film, and Gathegi has already joked about his eagerness to “kick some werewolf butt – and then die.” So needless to say, he was excited by the news that cameras will begin rolling on “New Moon” in the spring.
“I am more than excited to hear about ‘New Moon’ getting the green light,” Edi told us. “It’s going to be cold up in Oregon again, but that’s what I live for. The work that is, not the cold. It’s been a hell of a ride, and I’m ecstatic to be able to re-live it all over again.”
Hey Twilighters: Which “New Moon” elements do you feel need to be tweaked? Which should, above all else, remain the same? |

Discuss: The Worst Holiday Movies |
Nov 30, 2008 |

Guess this is a good topic to get out of the way now, seeing as we love to do all sorts of seasonal stuff here at Cinematical. Plus EW just posted a pretty solid piece on The 20 Worst Holiday Movies, and by "holiday," they mean December, not year 'round.
On one hand, the EW staff focuses on most of the easy (recent) targets like Deck the Halls, Surviving Christmas, and Christmas with the Kranks -- and I thank them for remembering to include the vile Jingle All the Way and the unwatchable Eight Crazy Nights -- but, um, the original Black Christmas does NOT belong on this list. (Why? Because it's a good horror film!) They give the flick a bankhand by saying "it's not that terrible," but include it on the list because it kick-started the (generally terrible) slasher sub-genre. That makes no sense to me, especially when there's a perfectly terrible remake of Black Christmas that could have made the list. (Oooh, and high-five to whomever remembered New Year's Evil.)
So take a look through the list and let us know what you think. Mostly naughty, not much nice. I mighta nominated Mixed Nuts, seeing as how many great people it wastes. Or most of The Santa Clause trilogy, for sheer awfulness. And for even more yuletide torture, heck, here's a two-year-old piece I wrote called The World's Most Obnoxious Xmas Comedies. Bah humbug indeed |

'Twilight' Sequel to Shoot This March |

Looks like Summit Entertainment isn't wasting any time with the next Twilight movie, New Moon, based on the second book in Stephenie Meyers' ultra popular series. Not only has it been reported that both Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson are receiving a giant pay raise for the sequel (somewhere around $12 million each), but while appearing on Ryan Seacrest's radio show, Stewart said New Moon would start shooting in March, 2009. Is Summit trying to turn the next flick around in time for Christmas, 2010 ... or do you think they're eying a major Summer 2010 spot?
As far as budget is concerned, according to Stewart the production value should be going up. She says, "A lot of the book takes place in Italy, and I think we're going to get to go to Italy, which is so cool. For a while there, they were like, Oh, we don't know if we have the money, but now I think we may have the money!" Um, yeah, I think they have the money.
For those who saw Twilight, what would you like to see the sequel do differently? |

While conducting interviews with the cast of The Dark Knight this afternoon, I got a chance to chat with director Christopher Nolan and Gary Oldman about the proposed third segment of their supposed Batman trilogy. While none of us in attendance really wanted to dwell on the death of Heath Ledger, Oldman offered his thoughts on the actor's portrayal of the Joker, calling it the scariest on-screen performance he's ever seen.
He even went on to compare it to his own work as Sirius Black, saying, "Sirius Black might scare six year olds, but he doesn't scare nine year olds. It's hard to scare kids these days. Heath does. He scares everybody. This is one of the most frightening performances I have ever seen put on film." When asked if he thought they should recast Ledger for the third film, or just not include the character, Gary thought it was a good idea, "I don't see why not. I mean, they did it with Katie Holmes' character. I understand that this is a different circumstance, but I think another actor could do the job. I think Heath would want another actor to do the job."
Oldman then took a moment to think about it some more, "Maybe we don't need the Joker. Because we'll have The Riddler." Yes, Oldman alluded to the fact that The Riddler may in fact be the next on-screen Batman villain.
When I asked if he, himself, wanted to come back for a third segment, he smiled coyly, "We don't really know if Nolan is coming back." He then shook his head. "I guess I have to come back." He then put his hand to the side of his mouth as if to hide the next line from everybody, "Nolan will come back for a third one. I think we all have to." It is well known that Oldman tried to get out of appearing in The Dark Knight, but his contract wouldn't allow it.
Next, I asked Christopher Nolan if he wanted to come back for a third Batman film, and he said that he wasn't sure that he wanted to come back, "I don't know. I take my projects one at a time, and I am not thinking about that right now. I don't know if I want to come back." After that, I asked, "If you do choose to make a third Batman film, do you think that you would recast for the Joker? Or will he not appear in the film?"
Nolan's replay, "I don't know. I honestly have not taken a moment away from what is going on with the film now to even think about that. I don't know. I simply don't know."
The Dark Knight opens July 18th, 2008. |

Guillermo del Toro will film THE HOBBIT in a grueling 370 day shoot in New Zealand, by far the largest and longest filming schedule he will ever take on in his career.
It actually beats out the length Peter Jackson spent filming the three LORD OF THE RINGS films where principal photography lasted 274 days though he did work on the movie for four years with very lengthy pre and post production schedules.
del Toro also mentions in the live Blu-Ray chat he conducted this week to celebrate the release of HELLBOY 2: THE GOLDEN ARMY that he is hoping that HELLBOY creator Mike Mignola will join his dream team of professionals on the film, citing the following as the top of his wish list…
Hopefully Mignola, Barlowe, Spectral Motion, Guillermo Navarro and others…
Filming will begin sometime 2010, with casting set to begin early 2009. Previously del Toro said we would start hearing casting news at around Christmas time this year.
THE HOBBIT Part I will be released in December 2011 with Part II coming a whole year later. |

TWILIGHT awakens BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER? |

Well the movie industry has shut down for Thanksgiving but there is no such holiday here in the U.K, making news stories very difficult to find this morning.
Which means today I have had to resort to a rumor. A really unfounded and likely to be false rumor. Moviehole have found a snippet in the Herald-Sun Newspaper claiming a new BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER movie is in the works. Hollywood are said to be interested in reviving the franchise after the success of TWILIGHT.
“The monster success of girly vampire pic Twilight at the US Box office last weekend could kick open the door for a big-screen return of Joss Whedon’s much-loved Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Rumours are circulating in Hollywood that Whedon has a feature-film script based on his hit TV series ready to roll as soon as a studio is prepared to commit. The Buffy concept was first unveiled as a movie in 1992 with long-forgotten Kristy Swanson in the title role.”
Something tells me that if Joss Whedon had wrote or was writing a screenplay for a new BUFFY, he wouldn’t have been able to keep his mouth shut. He would have told us by now.
Would love to see it. I was a huge BUFFY fan and as every Sarah Michelle Gellar flop flies by, I do light a candle of hope that Whedon will come down and rescue her. Hell, it might be good for Whedon too. |

Tron 2 Renamed? Possible Plot Information Revealed! |

I’m not sure how reliable this intel is right now, but Production Weekly is reporting that Disney’s Tron sequel has been renamed from the horrible Tr2n to the even worse TRZ. I have an idea, why don’t you call it… Tron 2? Wow. I’m sure the brand and name probably still has value with today’s movie-going public. I’m pretty sure the little kids aren’t going to think it’s cool because its written in “cool” online abbreviations. Plus, when will companies like Disney realize that when they try to copy a “cool trend”, it always rubs the X-generation as “Dad is trying to talk like his kids in gChat.” There is really no reason for the change, but I digress.
Production Weekly also has a short plot synopsis: “After being transported into the surreal landscape of a mainframe computer to destroy an intruder (Tron), a programmer finds himself allied with the leader of a rebellion against a corrupt cyber-entity.” The early test footage/trailer shown at comic con featured Jeff Bridges, reprising his role as a programmer named Flynn from the first film, but possibly with a turn to the dark side. If the new plot synopsis is true, this would mean that Flynn is teaming with a new programmer to defend the system from his former friend Tron.
What do you think? And speaking of that test footage/trailer — when is Disney going to officially release it and name a release date? |

Remember that item we ran last week — David Fincher to direct Keanu Reeves in a movie about a Chef? We didn’t know much about the project back then, but an anonymous scooper has filled me in.
The Untitled Chef Project is a screenplay by Steven Knight, the screenwriter behind Dirty Pretty Things, Amazing Grace, Eastern Promises, and Martin Scorsese’s upcoming Dennis Lehane adaptation Shutter Island. Apparently the screenplay was featured on the 2007 Black List, a list of screenplays compiled by over 150 executives and assistants. The project is now set up at Paramount. Fincher and the studio recently cleared the air, so this pairing makes sense. So what is the movie about?
“A Michelin-level chef tries to make a comeback from major personal issues. He gathers his old friends together as his ‘dream team’ and ends up falling in love with the newest member of the group.”
I have yet to read the screenplay, but the first page has a unshaven Chef named Adam shouting obscenities in French (subtitled). It seems pretty obvious that Keanu will be playing Adam.

Geoff Johns to Retell Superman’s Origin |
Nov 30, 2008 |

In the 2006 film Superman Returns, Bryan Singer chose not to retell Superman’s origin story. I mean, heck, we’ve all seen the original Richard Donner classic, right? Newsarama reports that DC Comics will be releasing a six-issue stand-alone series called Superman: Secret Origin, which will retell the Man of Steel’s origin story. Geoff Johns and Gary Frank have been hired.
DC Universe Executive Editor Dan Didio compares Geoff’s new take on the origin story to that of John Byrne made in the 1980’s, stating that it will make the “same imprint now, for 2009 and past that.” The new take will take readers from Clark’s teenage years, through his first adventure with the Legion of Super-Heroes and into his arrival and introduction to Metropolis as Superman.
“We haven’t seen a modern day retelling of Clark’s first adventure as Superboy with the Legion of Super-Heroes, or the day Superman met Jimmy Olsen or the origins of Superman’s long time enemies like the Parasite and Metallo. More importantly, Clark Kent himself will be explored in his earlier years in a way I don’t think he’s ever been explored before. And freaking Gary Frank, one of the greatest Superman artists in history already, is illustrating it. Every cover, every panel, ever line,” Johns told Newsarama. “Unlike previous Superman origin stories, this will be told almost entirely from Clark’s eyes. We won’t be spending an issue on Krypton. We’ll be opening on one of Clark’s earliest memories as a kid and moving forward from there. This is his story of self-discovery and the world’s story of meeting Superman.”
I’m not sure what to make of the new origin story. Sounds like they are just trying to reflect some of the recent continuity changes with Infinite Crisis. I honestly don’t follow the Superman comics enough to know what I’m talking about in this arena, but it does seem a bit odd that DC would release a retelling when it appears, that Warner Bros is looking to completely relaunch the entire film franchise (speculation, not confirmed) complete with origin. As /Film commentor DDD points out, Geoff Johns made a pitch to WB for a Superman reboot and Richard Donner has been publicly saying that Johns should write the next Superman movie.

6. Australia -- $5.2 mil
7. Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa -- $4.9 mil
SATURDAY QUICK UPDATE: Four Christmases easily won Friday, as well, with $13.2 mil, versus $11 mil for Twilight. Australia continued to trail way back in sixth place, with $5.7 mil.

The story revolves around a slave who turns to the rising tide of Christianity in the hopes of pursuing freedom while also falling in love with his master, the famous female philosophy professor and atheist Hypatia of Alexandria.
"Agora" is currently in post-production, but will not appear in theaters until December of next year, possibly to be an Oscar contender.

Tron 2 Plot Synopsis And New Title |
Nov 30, 2008 |
Petes1234567 |

When Disney debuted test footage from their impending, long-awaited sequel to Tron at Comic Con, it came with the rather lame title of Tr2n. The good news is that it seems they’ve come to their senses and decided to call it something else. The bad news is that they’re calling it TRZ.
At least I sort of knew what Tr2n meant. You see that and you think, “oh they’re making a Tron sequel and they’ve given it a horrible, MySpace/Text Speak title”. When you see TRZ on a billboard, you’ll have absolutely no idea what it means. Well done Disney, you’ve accomplished something truly incredible. You’ve made the title worse. Luckily, there’s still plenty of time to change the title again.
The new title comes courtesy of the latest, jam-packed edition of Production Weekly, where they also have a brief plot synopsis for the film. Here’s what they think it will be about: “After being transported into the surreal landscape of a mainframe computer to destroy an intruder (Tron), a programmer finds himself allied with the leader of a rebellion against a corrupt cyber-entity.”
Read that synopsis carefully and you’ll get a few important clues as to what TRZ may be about. In the first movie a programmer named Flynn (Jeff Bridges) is sucked inside the computer to be destroyed. In the sequel, it sounds like the computer is bringing a programmer inside to help defend it. The test footage from Comic Con hinted at the possibility that Jeff Bridges might be playing the bad guy, an evil computer entity in the sequel. If that’s the case, it might actually make sense for a digitized Flynn, once a computer programmer himself, to bring in another programmer to aid him in fighting off rebels led by his once friend, Tron. The title may be awful, but as a story this is really starting to sound good. |

Edwin A. Salt Retitled As Erika |

Though there were rumors that she might be leaving the project, it looks like Angelina Jolie is still attached to Edwin A. Salt. Only according to Production Weekly, the movie’s name has changed to fit the female gender of its lead. Now they’re calling it Erika Salt.
You may remember that Jolie was brought in to replace Tom Cruise, who was originally supposed to play the titular Mr. Salt. Since they’ve now changed the title to fit Angelina’s curvaceous figure, it’s reasonable to assume she’s there to stay.
Erika Salt is a spy movie. Jolie will play a CIA officer fingered as a Russian sleeper agent out to assassinate the president. She escapes capture and fights to reunite with her family and prove she’s not a traitor.

Planet Of The Apes Has A Director |

The new Planet of the Apes rumors that have been roaming around the internet this weekend are true, and the movie already has a director. The latest issue of Production Weekly confirms that not only is a new Planet of the Apes movie happening, it’s being directed by Scott Frank.
You may remember a lot of hullabaloo here on Cinema Blend last year over Frank. He made his directorial debut in 2007 on what was not only one of the year’s best, but most overlooked movies The Lookout. Now 20th Century Fox is putting him in charge of revitalizing Planet of the Apes. It’s not being called Planet of the Apes: Genesis as rumored elsewhere though, they’re calling it Caesar.
Here’s the official plot synopsis from PW: “The origins of how the Apes took over Earth. A hyper-intelligent chimp raised by humans incites a worldwide ape revolution and causes the downfall of mankind.”
So we’re looking at a prequel. Not just a prequel, but a remake since this plotline was already covered in the last of the original Apes movies, 1972’s Conquest of the Planet of the Apes. It tells the story of an ape leader named Caesar (played by Roddy McDowall) leading a revolution against mankind. They’re giving us a Battle for the Planet of the Apes do over. |

Ashton Kutcher Is An American Neurotic |

I think I’m starting to like Ashton Kutcher. Not his acting, obviously, but maybe as a person. There’s a chance he may not be the idiot we all think he is. At least that’s the impression I got when I saw him on Politically Incorrect last week. Don’t get me wrong, the guy is kind of a spazz, but maybe not a stupid spazz. God help me, I think I may be rooting for him to succeed.
I may even be sort of interested in his next movie. I wonder if there’s a pill for this. because his next project is yet another lame romantic comedy and I don’t want to like another lame Ashton Kutcher rom-com. According to the latest Production Weekly, Kutcher is set to star in a film called American Neurotic. It’s the story of a New York womanizer with commitment issues. He confesses the details of his female conquests to his psychiatrist, and then shortly thereafter meets his dream girl. One problem: His dream girl is his shrink’s daughter. Kutcher and his love interest get closer while Kutcher’s best friend and the girl’s father do everything they can to keep them from getting together.
If the plot of American Neurotic sounds a little bit familiar, that’s probably because you saw the Uma Thurman movie Prime. Same story, swap the genders. It wasn’t very good when Uma did it and it probably won’t be very good with Kutcher either, but since I’m now on Ashton’s side I’m forced to hope for the best.
American Neurotic is still in early stages of development. Sony Pictures hasn’t found a director yet, just Ashton to star in it.

This report comes from the fact that these two items have been removed from the WB Studio Tour in Burbank, California, because it "had been recalled from the museum for filming commitments."
While this can't be confirmed, we can be fairly certain that these items will be used when filming for Deathly Hallows begins this February.

Johnny Depp is said to be in contention to play Roger Moore in a movie based on the actor's memoirs.
Moore released My Word Is My Bond last month and two US studios are reportedly in the frame to pick up the rights to the story.
"The two production companies' interest in Roger was heightened after they read the tales of his Hollywood exploits," a source told WENN.
"They are keen to centre on that era ahead of his 007 days. They believe film-goers will lap this one up and it could be a huge hit."
According to the mole, Moore already has an idea as to who he would like to play him in the movie. "The whole project is shrouded in secrecy but Roger has been telling friends, with a knowingly raised eyebrow, that he's a great admirer of Johnny Depp."
My Word Is My Bond details Roger Moore's 1950s and '60s exploits alongside fellow actors Elizabeth Taylor, David Niven and Lana Turner. |

What Will You Save When The Earth Stands Still? |

I took a philosophy course once where we discussed the impact of death. In an attempt to simulate dealing with that impact, the teacher led us through an exercise where we mentally had to face losing everything that was important to us. It was a grueling exercise that left me feeling emotionally drained.
Thankfully, 20th Century Fox isn’t going quite the same route with their online ad campaign for The Day the Earth Stood Still, although they are asking you something similar. The trailers alone make it look like mankind is facing the end of the Earth in the remake of the classic movie, so Fox wants to know what you think is vital enough to save. You have until 12/12/08 to list your vital items and get enough people to vote for them that they will be saved when the Earth stands still.
Make your vital list over at The Earth’s Vital List and then get your friends to vote for your items through social networks like facebook and MySpace.
I will say, I think this is a cool little social networking game, but beyond that it’s not much use. Trying to find my vital item (take a guess at what you think it is) yielded no results when I used the site’s “explore” feature. Oh well, hopefully I have enough friends through the social networks to save my little show.
12/12/08 is The Day the Earth Stood Still… or at least the day the remake comes to theaters.

Apparently That Wasn't The Last Kiss |

Zach Braff fans who were dissatisfied with the unresolved, open ending of The Last Kiss might be in for more luck. No, Braff hasn’t signed on to appear in another movie, because a sequel to the 2006 flick hasn’t been created yet. But it has been revealed that Italian director Gabriele Muccino, who directed L’Ultimo Bacio (the movie The Last Kiss was adapted from), is headed back to Italy to write and direct a follow-up picture, titled Baciami Ancora, or Kiss Me Again.
Empire Magazine reports that Muccino has reunited his original cast for the new story, which will pick up ten years after the events of L’Ultimo Bacio. Muccino is currently writing the screenplay for the sequel, which will begin filming in Rome this spring.
Now, this doesn’t mean that there’s any chance that Braff will return to do another movie with Tony Goldwyn, who directed The Last Kiss, but if the first movie was enough of an inspiration for an American remake, is it too far fetched to think the sequel will be as well?

We've seen several set photos from Michael Mann's Public Enemies, the 30s-era gangster epic starring Johnny Depp and Christian Bale. But none of the images have featured Bale, and you can't really beat the official stills with the right lighting, the complete costumes, and the smoldering gazes of Misters Depp and Bale.
So behold the first official images from Public Enemies, debuting at Empire Online before showing up in the January issue of the British magazine (the one with Hugh Jackman as Wolverine on the cover). Look at the period hats! The suits! The threat of imminent violence! Oh, and Jack Sparrow and Batman, facing off against each other from either side of the law.
Public Enemies comes out next July; if they keep coming up with images like these, it'll definitely be hard to wait that long. Empire has the full size images, so be sure to check 'em out.

British Film Industry Threatened By Piracy |
Nov 30, 2008 |
Petes1234567 |

It’s been a while since we heard someone shouting out gloom-and-doom because of the film piracy industry. I think too many people have been focused on other issues. Between the writer’s strike, recovering from the writer’s strike, the recession, the election, and now the potential actor’s strike, who’s had time to worry about piracy?
The Hollywood Reporter says there’s a good reason to worry about film piracy. The sales of bootleg DVDs and illegal downloading may affect the entire film industry in the U.K. According to the producer of Quantum of Solace, Callum McDougall, copyright theft is knocking down the British film industry, ”like a house of cards.”
The comments came at a meeting for the Industry Trust for IP Awareness, and make for an excellent soundbyte, along with reminders that Britain’s contributions to the film industry aren’t the “cottage-industry” many people make it out to be, with 3 out of 4 Indiana Jones pictures and 20 out of 22 Bond flicks made in the U.K.
The problem with McDougall’s statements, or at least HR’s reporting of it, is that it doesn’t explain how copyright theft is affecting the British industry. Not that I condone the theft, but there has yet to be truly solid evidence of how damaging things like illegal downloading is to the industry, with many pirates admitting they still purchase legitimate versions of the movies they download.
I’m not saying copyright theft is right, and I’m not saying it’s not damaging Britain’s industry, but I’d like to hear more substantial comments than what looks to be some good soundbytes but little substance.

Bubblegum Crisis Headed For Big Screen |

The world of action movies is soon going to become a very confusing place for those of us who aren’t familiar with anime. Several anime TV shows have received green lights to be made into feature length pictures, many of them being converted to live action, like the upcoming Dragonball Z movie. Another Tokyo-based cartoon is about to receive the same treatment: Bubblegum Crisis.
Announced by Variety, the project will be a joint venture between Anime Intl. Company and Cubix Intl., who intend to make a live action adaptation of the hit series, maintaining the look and feel of the original product.
Here’s where I’d tell you about how excited or disappointed I am in this news, but I really don’t care one way or the other. If the story is good I’ll see it, regardless of its anime roots. If it’s not, I won’t. The fact that the original series has spawned several other shows (prequel AD Police Files and sequel Bubblegum Crash) sounds promising though.

Marvel Isn't Forcing Franchise Movies Into Place |
Nov 30, 2008 |
Petes1234567 |

You have to admit, as far as stingers go (scenes after a film’s credits), Iron Man had a pretty kick-ass idea. Not only setting up the idea that we will have an Avengers movie soon, but introducing Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury? It doesn’t get much better than that. Then, of course, you had the cool crossover in The Incredible Hulk with Tony Stark showing up.
So, what can we expect from the upcoming swath of Marvel Movies? Iron Man 2 screenwriter Justin Theroux says he has no idea yet. The writer told MTV Splashpage that no conversations are going on between the writers of the various movies.
Theroux clarifies that this is a good thing though. The potential is there for all sorts of cool crossovers, but nothing is being sent down as a requirement. The studio is focused more on making great individual movies, and then allowing cameo appearances or setting the stage for Avengers later on. “I think [Marvel Studios President] Kevin Feige just wants to make sure we can make the best movie that we can make.”
Theroux says that just because the studio isn’t handing down requirements doesn’t mean they aren’t paying attention though. ”Kevin is in all the meetings for all the movies, and is the sort of connective tissue – the neurons if you will – running between the meetings. Making sure all the things can be connected.” That actually excites me. I never felt like the worlds of Spider-Man, X-Men, and Punisher were all that connected, despite them inhabiting the same city in the comic books. The idea that Feige is making sure these films can be combined, while not laying down requirements to force them to fit some mold is really good.
I’m very excited to see where Marvel can take their franchises on film. I think they have the potential for some really excellent movies if they play their cards right. The first big step is making sure each movie can stand on its own, however, and that’s exactly what they are doing. There’s no point in ruining one of these first movies in hopes of laying down the foundation for the future if the future doesn’t get here, right? Lest we wind up with another Elektra.

Madonna's Brother Heads For Feature Films |

I have a tip for aspiring filmmaker Christopher Ciccone: leave your sister out of your movie. The young director is brother to famed singer Madonna, who has had her own level of successes and failures in film, but tends to bring down those around her. Look at her collaboration with now-ex-husband Guy Ritche: Swept Away. Or, for that matter, how about long-ago-ex-husband Sean Penn: Shanghai Surprise (which I’m sure the Milk actor would love if people would forget).
Christopher Ciccone hasn’t avoided working with Madonna in the past, having directed several of her music videos. Now he’s moving into the world of feature films, however, and will direct a teen thriller titled Twist. So we suggest again, leave Madonna uninvolved with your picture.
Right now, other than the notice that he’s Madonna’s brother in HR’s report, there doesn’t seem to be any collaboration between the two on Twist. The picture will be produced through Usonian Entertainment, which was written by Jay and Karen Milner, who will co-produce the movie. Hopefully Ciccone will heed our warning, if only to give his movie every possible opportunity at succeeding.

The Daily Mail claims that it's no coincidence that Beyoncé Knowles has been dressing up like a cat burglar lately on stage. The publication claims to have pinpointed the various futuristic looks the "Single Ladies" singer has "stolen" for her looks from her new album.
It would appear that B's latest fashions were inspired by fellow pop stars Kylie Minogue, Rihanna, Jennifer Lopez and George Michael. The publication also claims that Beyoncé was inspired by the scene in Mr. & Mrs. Smith in which Angelina Jolie descends on a rope wearing a trenchcoat for one of her on-stage entrances, a device also used in the past by Britney Spears.
What do you think? Is this a coincidence, creative license or thievery?

Dang, it's been one of those long days, lots of news, and I'm still not done. This is directed by Russell Mulcahy (Resident Evil: Extinction) so yeah I know.. but before you start giving it a thumbs down you really should check out the footage. It has a hint of noir, and while I found a much lengthier synopsis, you don't really want to know what happens before you see it, now do you?
"Thomas Jane as the title character and Ving Rhames as his rival, "Boulder." Malone, tough private eye, takes a job retrieving a case containing a mysterious secret. Bullets, fists, and blood fly as he fights through an army of thugs to protect the secret."
For such a plain looking guy Thomas Jane gets some seriously great roles, yup, he's turning into a badass. Trust me folks, you don't want to miss the blood, mayhem, and cool cars all to the tune of BAD TO THE BONE. You can watch the teaser here.
